 EHSAAS UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM :

One of the methods to get out of poverty is to get a higher education. Access to higher education, on the other hand, is unevenly dispersed. Only 0.4 percent of children from the lowest poverty quintile (from the relevant age cohort) are enrolled in higher education institutions, compared to a national average of 10%. Ehsas scholarships are designed to reduce this source of inequity.

Pakistan is one of the world's youngest countries, according to the National Human Development Report 2017. Recognizing its demographic reality, with a population of around 220 million people, more than half of whom are in the university age cohort, the government of Pakistan has made it a priority to work on programmes that encourage access to financially deserving people while also encouraging gender equity. The goal of the plan is to provide chances for a large number of young people to enter the higher education system and to ensure that all students have equitable access to education.

Ehsas scholarships are designed to address this source of uneven access.

Pakistan is one of the world's youngest countries, according to the National Human Development Report of 2017. Recognizing Pakistan's demographic realities, with a population of approximately 220 million people, more than half of whom are university-age, the Pakistani government has announced it a priority to work on programmes that encourage financial deserving people to get access to education while also encouraging gender equity. The goal of the plan is to provide chances for a large number of young people to enter the higher education system, therefore ensuring that all students have equitable access to education.

Objectives :

  • It's a paradigm change in Pakistani government policy to help undergrads who, for financial reasons, can't go to university after finishing FA/FSc./Intermediate. The Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship Project, in contrast to previous financial assistance programmes that targeted MS or PhD programmes, focuses on the most critical segment, namely the 4-5year undergraduate programmes, which contribute the most to the income of the person who completes the bachelor's degree.
  • In Pakistan's Ehsaas social safety net programme, which aims to provide 50,000 student scholarships each year with an annual budget of Rs.6 billion, this is one of the major government-funded initiatives. This project. The number of these scholarships will grow to about 200,000 in the next four to five years.
  • Scholarships cover the cost of university tuition and a stipend for the four to five years it takes to get a degree. It's a big step toward making higher education more accessible to people from various backgrounds, including agriculture, the humanities, business, engineering, and the medical and physical sciences, as well as the social sciences.
  • To further the project's goal of assisting female students, half of the project's total scholarships are designated for females.
  • Two percent of the scholarships are set aside for students with physical disabilities to encourage them.
  • It's a dynamic initiative that'll help develop a skilled labour force and improve youths' employability.
  • It aims to inspire students who have dropped out of school due to financial constraints to return to it.
  • Poorer households will be able to escape poverty by focusing on the most vulnerable section of the young population via this programme, which is anticipated to have a beneficial effect on people, their families, and the community in the long term.
