Freelancers can work from anywhere, from their own homes to
offices. There are freelancers and businesses from around 160 countries using
the platform. In 2019, Fiverr went public. It is now a global marketplace worth
billions of dollars.
Micha Kaufman and Shai Wenninger came up with the idea for
Fiverr. The marketplace's founders developed a two-sided market
where people could buy and sell digital services, usually done by
freelance contractors. On the site, you can get help with writing, translation,
graphic design, video editing, and programming, among other things. Services on
Fiverr start at $5 and can cost as much as a few thousand dollars.
Fiverr released its iOS app in the Apple App Store in
December 2013 and its Android app in the Google Play store in March 2014.
In October 2015, Amazon.com sued 1,114 Fiverr sellers who it
says fake post reviews on the US version of its website. Fiverr did not dispute
Amazon's claims and said, "As Amazon pointed out, we have worked closely
together to remove services that break our terms of service and respond quickly
to any reports of inappropriate content." After a "sting,"
Amazon went to court.
In November 2015, Square Peg Capital led a Series D round of
funding that brought in $60 million for Fiverr.
With this round, they have raised a total of $110 million.
It went public on the NYSE in June 2019.
The company reported $189.5 million in sales for the 2020
fiscal year on February 18, 2021. This is a 77% increase from the previous
fiscal year, which brought in $107.1 million.
Meet Adam, CEO & Fiverr Buyer
When you buy a Gig on Fiverr, you're not just adding an item
to your shopping cart. On the other side of the screen is a skilled independent
professional who can help you get it done. In exchange, you're
helping them build their portfolio and business. We like to think that this is
the start of a great friendship.
The Fiverr community was built and made more robust by these
great connections. So, in our new #FiverrConnections campaign, we set out to
show the two sides of creative collaboration. And who better than other Fiverr
community members to show how powerful these partnerships can be?
More than 20 genuine buyers and sellers on Fiverr did future work for the camera so we could show what can happen when both sides of a
marketplace work together. But these intelligent people are a lot more than just
pretty faces.
These "role models" build, design, write, animate,
speak, and do anything else they set their minds to, and they're just getting
started. In the next few weeks, we'll tell you about each of these unique,
creative people who make decisions. Read about the match. Adam is a CEO and PR
expert who has used Fiverr for a long time.
Tell us
about yourself. What you do, who you are, and where you come from.
My name is Adam Nelson, and I am the founder and CEO of
Workhouse, a creative agency in New York that has won awards. In 1999, I
started my business with just a phone and a fax machine in the rented
kitchen of a run-down film studio in Soho.
Why did I
start a business from scratch?
Desperation. Getting
fired in the middle of the economic downturn of the late 1990s made it
impossible to find a job. I had $196 in the bank, but I didn't know
what to do with it. When I was homeless, I had a simple goal: to
eat every day. So, I put together a group of students who didn't have
much to do, waiters, and interns to slowly build a PR agency from scratch.
My company, WORKHOUSE, celebrates the history of builders
who went to do honest work in the past. Over time, we became known for
successfully representing people like Lou Reed, photographer David LaChapelle,
Francis Ford Coppola, The Rolling Stones, brands like Soho House, CBGB,
Interview Magazine, and Porsche, to name a few.
In 2013, we were bought by one of the best public relations
firms in the country, and I was named President of that firm. But less than a
year later, I decided to take the company back. I was stuck in my cubicle,
deflated, bored, and sad. I ended up in an office alone, not far from
where it all started. Starting over with not much more than a desk and a cell
phone.
By doing this, I joined a massive group of modern entrepreneurs trying to change the rules. Fiverr has helped me get ahead. Getting
us through some of our most creative years as a business. Because opposition no
longer holds back imagination.
What gets
you going? Why do you do what you do?
I like deviant composition. Doing work that both unites and
stirs people up. Because business is built on creativity and new ideas and
because people do things when they have to.
How have
the freelance services you've used and the connections you've made through
Fiverr helped your business grow?
In honor of Workhouse's 20th anniversary, we made a magazine
called Boy Scout. It is a collection of intimate conversations between the
world's most creative people. It has profiles of writers, artists, thumb
nosers, and creative thinkers who have the spit and polish to get things done.
Boy Scouts is full of different kinds of artistic expression
and a natural, off-center spirit. It shows people still breaking new,
revolutionary ground through a wellspring of popular, gay, and concrete
culture. God's Love We Deliver will get a portion of the money made from
advertising.
We used freelancers from Fiverr to transcribe the audio
interviews we did with each of our 20 subjects over the past two weeks and the Christmas break. Without these intelligent and creative friends, we couldn't have
made the magazine, our sound and fury passion project, happen as quickly and
well as it did.
We also used Fiverr sound editors to adjust the EQ and sound
quality of all 20 interviews with famous people. We also used Fiverr
voiceover artists to make a series of essential DJ drops for the magazine's
audio ID, which will be used in our podcast portal, Boy Scout Radio. A
companion to the book, which can be found at Http://www.boyscouted.com when it
came out on January 10, 2019.
Fiverr's vibrant community's true strength and value shine through in how services are made and how we use our creativity. Projects are possible like never before. Before this, a
freelancer on Fiverr made a motion-graphic logo for our 20th Anniversary movie.
It is the most exciting thing about that project, and you can find it on our
homepage at http://www.workhousepr.net.
We have also used Fiverr voiceover artists to make phone
greetings, SEO and ranking services, directory listings, Google indexing, and
so much more.
Do you
have any Gigs or sellers that you always go to?
I can find a seller on Fiverr for any business need. I use
@dbsound for mixing and mastering, Fiverr Pro @sickmotion for animation,
@roxyvox for voiceovers, and @jinglesfactory for sound design.
What
advice do you have for people who have never used Fiverr before?
Find what you're looking for. Fiverr makes it easier to find
cheap freelance talent, so "impossible" is no longer a limit.
Why are
connections important for people who make decisions by thinking creatively?
The best work comes from people working together creatively.
Fiverr is what tomorrow's revolutionary will be like today.
What are
your goals for your business? Next, what do you want to do?
How does
it feel to literally be the face of Fiverr?
I'm proud to be a part of making this amazing thing even more significant. One that encourages thinking about the future, entrepreneurship, and
the freedom to work independently. Fiverr is a magical place where artists and
technical acrobats can show off their skills. A trusted pool of people whose
only goal is to speed up your rise.
